Content briefs
Content briefs are the core of Content Studio. Each brief defines a topic, format and objective. Generate a draft to review and send to WordPress or Contentful, or copy the Markdown into your own publishing workflow.
What a content brief contains
Each brief can include:
- Title. A descriptive name for the content piece
- Source query. The prompt or content gap that inspired the brief
- Objective. The planning context the generator should satisfy
- Content type. Blog post, landing page, LinkedIn, tweet, or FAQ page
- Tone. A brief-specific tone, inherited from the brand default until changed
- Competitors mentioned. Competitors from the content gap when available
- Opportunity score. How significant the visibility opportunity is
- Generated content. Markdown produced by the generation chain
- Quality details. Rubric scores, revision notes, and provider information when available
Use the objective for the audience, required facts, and writing guidance. Generated content appears as Markdown for review and copying.
Creating a content brief
Most briefs start from a content gap in Opportunities.
- Open a Content gap in Opportunities.
- Review the evidence and the play's suggested coverage.
- Select Draft with evidence to create a brief from the first suggestion, or pick another under Or draft.
- The brief opens beside the opportunity. You can also find it in Content Studio.
Briefs created this way inherit the opportunity's question, content type, objective, source suggestion, and opportunity score. The brief links back to its opportunity, and creating the first one moves the opportunity to In flight.
To start without an opportunity, select New brief in Content Studio and enter a title and the question to answer.
Generating content
Once you have a draft or failed brief, click Generate or Retry to run the AI generation chain. Generated briefs can be regenerated.
The generator uses the brief planning context, brand evidence, tone, available grounding, and skills already associated with the brief. Saving a skill in settings alone does not attach it. While generation runs, the UI shows step progress such as analysis, research, outline, draft, and critique.
A brief linked to a content gap is also written from the opportunity's evidence. That includes verbatim answer excerpts, which brands each model favours, and the most-cited pages with their owners. The opportunity shows how many evidence links each brief was built from.
Generation and regeneration use your Content Studio allowance. If it is exhausted, you can still create and edit briefs and maintain skills in a writable workspace. Check Plan & Usage for reset timing or a plan change.
Reviewing generated content
After generation, the content appears in the brief as rendered Markdown. You can:
- Read the generated draft
- Send it to a connected WordPress or Contentful destination, or copy the Markdown
- Regenerate it
- Review quality rubric scores and editor notes when available
- Compare the pre-polish draft when a revision was applied
- Mark the brief as published
- Archive or delete the brief
Verify claims, links, prices and product details before publishing. Send to CMS creates a new draft using the destination’s confirmed mapping. Make final edits and publish in the CMS; Cleotic checks publication and whether the page is live. See CMS delivery and publication.
For other publishing workflows, copy the Markdown and publish externally, then select Mark Published. When Cleotic first sees a CMS delivery live, it marks the brief published for you. Either way, a brief linked to an opportunity moves it to Watching.
Content brief status
Briefs move through a lifecycle:
- Draft. Brief created, content not yet generated
- Generating. AI is producing the content
- Generated. Draft is ready for review
- Failed. Generation failed and can be retried
- Published. The content is marked published, or its CMS delivery was seen live
- Archived. Content is no longer active
Use the Pipeline filters to focus on a specific status.
Tips
- Start from Opportunities. The highest-scoring content gaps are the best candidates for content briefs.
- Use suggested coverage. Suggestions keep briefs tied to the actual missing conversation.
- Tune before generation. Draft and failed briefs can still be adjusted before generation.
- Keep guidance reusable. Store writing rules in skills, and put instructions needed for this draft in its objective.
